The Golden Triangle Tour
Namaste! We have always been on the fence about traveling to India. The land of extreme contrasts, colors and emotions. In a way. We really wanted to travel to India because sometimes we all somehow have our own image of it in our minds. On the flip side we had some respect for it. In the end we decided to go for it and it was the best decision we made India is such an incredibly interesting country, if not even a culture shock for westerners. This country is so incredibly beautiful – so colorful and bustling with life. Nevertheless it can be so terribly poor, chaotic and inhumane at the same time.
Despite its various problems, this country is a popular travel destination. As India historically has a lot to offer. History, religion, as well as food culture …how exciting!
New Delhi – Street Life
Passport control was straightforward and we were standing there, in awe. We dived straight in! We were immersed in a completly different world. The hustle and bustle of crowds were bustling around us.There are no road traffic regulations. Everyone somehow meanders through crowds. The sacred cows were lying down and blocking the way and could not be stressed out at all. People simply drove around them. There was a smell of food and delicious spices everywhere. Sometimes like the smell of curry – sometimes like vanilla. We were a bit overwhelmed as to which alley to stroll down first because. it was all so chaotic – and yet so overwhelmingly beautiful as well as hot! The humidity in New Delhi is very high.
Most of the population’s lives take place on the streets. The children brush their teeth in the hustle and bustle, others wash their hair. Tourists and locals just live normal everyday lives along side each other. There is no such thing as privacy.
Jama Masjid Mosque
In addition to the Hindus, there are also Muslims and Sikhs living in India. Religion is very important here. Everyone respects everyone else. So our first visit was the Jama Masjid Mosque. The largest mosque in India and one of the largest in the world. It is common to only enter this building barefoot, both inside and outside. For a small fee (donation) it is compulsory to wear some kind of outfit.
Agrasen Ki Baoli
A 2000 year old stepped well that filled with water during the summer monsoon season. The well was mainly intended to serve as a source of drinking water
Taj Mahal – Agra
What a token of love from the then Great Mughal Shah Jahan to his late wife Mumtaz Mahal. This mausoleum, where Princess Diana once had herself photographed, was built to commemorate her. An amazing structure. Despite the early arrival at 6 o’clock, you shouldn’t expect to be the only ones, several people will have the bright idea to get up at 6:00 a.m. to look at the beautiful building.
But…
In the same city, however, there is still the Baby Taj to admire. The Taj Mahal in miniature is directly on the river. From here you can admire the original Taj Mahal from afar.
Like in the jungle book …
We had “almost” all of the animals in front of the camera. Unfortunately, never a tiger. Our dream was once to spot a tiger roaming free in the wild. full of hope we booked a safari tour through the middle of the jungle. The tour, ,, the landscape…. It was really like the original jungle book as you remember it. Packed with a telephoto lens, we tried to find a tiger .. Unfortunately in vain. After approx. 3 hours of searching, we were already on our way back to the hotel. The driver was also very disappointed as he was firmly convinced that he would find a tiger. Notwithstanding that fact, hope dies last – dreams can come true!
